Visualizing Honor Crimes in Pakistan
Media may have created a big show of the honor crimes around the country, but data collected by the rights activists show newspapers are nowhere near the ground reality: there are at least 21 cases from all over the country that went unreported last month. Balochistan, the least reported of the provinces, had 34 cases according to the data available with the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, though only 21 of the cases there were reported by newspapers across the country. Of these reports, most of the coverage came from regional Sindhi media that also focuses on Balochistan. National level Urdu media mostly miss out on many such stories from Balochistan, even though the province has been in news recently for several other reasons.
