PayPal recently went under a redesign of several of its key brand elements, including its first logo redesign in seven years. Despite PayPal’s marketing spin, the new logo garnered mixed reviews from the design community. I took a stab at the redesign as an experimental project and came up with an iteration. I came up with a brand mark depicting the letter “P” in accordance with the name. On top of that, I designed a type-case for the font from scratch.
Here is what PayPal had to say in its press release:
Connection is a motivating principle behind the redesign — connection to money, to people and between people. It was important to evoke connection that was human and approachable, not too technical.
The brand mark represents connection to money, to people and between people. A slightly angled mark denotes dynamism, moving forward and innovation.
