How might we improve family trust at senior living communities?

Family Engagement App by Caremerge is a one-stop shop to connect family members with their loved one’s senior care or healthcare providers, allowing family members to stay up to date on the well-being of their loved ones through a HIPAA compliant easy to use interface.

Problem

Long term care is perhaps one of the greatest litigated areas in society today and most of that is driven by lack of information and lack of trust. Living outside, and at times, thousands of miles away from a senior care community, family members are usually unaware of the details of their senior loved ones’ activities and their well being. How are they being cared for? Who is taking care of them? Are they taking their medication on time? Lots of questions!

SOLUTION

An integrated web and mobile platform to streamline communication between care providers and family members using a HIPAA compliant and secure app, powered through timely updates. This information capture makes staff more efficient and providers more complaint.

SUCCESS METRICS

Charge nurses save nearly 100 hours annually in unproductive time checking voice mail, email messages and responding to phone queries. 80% of the family members signed up for the app upon its release. Family anxiety dispelled via app transparency, mitigating risk and establishing a sense of partnership. A latest app survey produced positive results indicating a 70% increase in family engagement.

Research Findings

Of families with a loved one in a senior care community, 54% reported that they only hear about emergency situations. 65% of families surveyed reported that they would like regular updates about their loved one’s day-to-day life in senior living. 70% of the families reported they preferred communicating via smartphone. Bottom line: families want to stay informed.

iOS & ANDROID PATTERNS

One of the challenges of this project was to create an app that stayed true to its experience while respecting guidelines of two distinct platforms, i.e., iOS and Android. I identified various navigation patterns unique to these platforms while remaining consistent with branding and content hierarchy. For Android, I took advantage of Google’s Material Design, while for iOS, I made use of iOS Human Interface Guidelines including an exposed navigation.
